  • Christopher Gaylord, DVM, MA

    Practice Owner
    Dr. Gaylord earned his DVM at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Before opening North Slope Veterinary, he worked as an Associate Veterinarian at Jersey City Animal Hospital and at the Humane Society of New York in Manhattan.

    Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Gaylord received his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and then went on to Hunter College where he received his Masters of Arts in Anthropology with a focus on primate behavior. He conducted field research with primates in Belize, Nicaragua, and Vietnam, and is passionate about wildlife conservation.

    Dr. Gaylord lives in the neighborhood with his wife and son and their dog, Turbo. He is thrilled to be the owner of North Slope Veterinary and is committed to providing excellent veterinary care to Brooklyn pets and their families.

  • Leanna Shuttleworth

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr Shuttleworth received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George's University in 2017, having undertaken her clinical training at Cornell's University Hospital for Animals. Prior to this she completed her Pre-Veterinary Medicine certificate at the University of Nottingham in the UK. Her work since graduating has been in small animal general practice.and she particularly enjoys preventative care, dentistry and surgery.  Originally British, she now lives in Brooklyn with her partner and energetic little cat, Loki.

    Outside of work, Dr. Shuttleworth is completing a Masters in Public Health from the University of Minnesota, and enjoys mountaineering, triathlons and travelling.

  • Allison K. Bliss

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Allison K.Bliss has been a part-time associate with North Slope Veterinary since June 2016. Prior to working with us she was working full-time at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center.  Born and raised in upstate New York, Dr. Bliss received a BA from Alfred University on 2005, where she majored in Biology/Pre-Veterinary studies and minored in Equine Science. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University in 2010.  Her work after graduating has included mixed companion animals, military working dogs, small animal private practice, small animal specialty practice, and shelter medicine. This August Dr. Bliss completed a two year online Masters in Public Health program through the University of Iowa.  She recently completed a three-day Fundamentals of Dentistry Course with Dr. Ira R. Luskin at the Animal Dental Training Center.

    When she is not at North Slope Veterinary, she is the lead veterinarian for the Department of Health free Rabies Events and works per diem at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center.  Dr. Bliss also leads an ongoing series of puppy training and socialization class here at the clinic.  In her spare time, Dr. Bliss enjoys running, reading and spending time with her dogs in the park.

    Maria's is the smiling face you see at our reception desk and the friendly voice answering the phone when you call.  She enjoys reading, cooking, arts and crafts, and cheering on her son Tyler at his karate tournaments and basketball games.

    Veterinary Technician
    Ofelia has 9 years of experience working as a veterinary technician. Her concern for your pet and genuine kindness can be felt immediately. In her free time, she hangs out with her Red Nose Pit Bull "Buddah" and loves photography, music, watching documentaries, and traveling to the Caribbean islands.

    Veterinary Technician 
    Vanessa has been a licensed technician for over four years.  As a young equestrian she developed a love for animals.  She is passionate about patient care, loves all animals and can't wait to meet yours!  Vanessa lives in Brooklyn with her cat Pickles, her dog Pantsy and boyfriend Andrew.
  • Jade

    Jade is an original Brooklyn native who currently resides there with her furry roommates.  Realizing her love for animals early on, she has been able to work with all types of animals, including retired racehorses, exotic birds, primates and even large cats for over two decades.  When not attending to her duties as a vet tech in a hospital setting with a bit of warmth and whimsy, she is helping a variety of animals retire with love and in style at a non-profit animal farm/sanctuary upstate.

    Pet Groomer
    Debi graduated as a Certified Groomer from the New York School of Dog Grooming in 1980 and has had over 30 years experience grooming all breeds of cats and dogs. Debi takes pride in doing high quality work and can always be counted on to go the extra mile. Debi lives in Brooklyn with her two rescue dogs, Noel, a Miniature Pincher and Sparkle, a Chihuahua. Debi is available for grooming services on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday by appointment.
